1950's Shabby Chic Wedding

Firstly hello all! My name's Kay and I'm new to the forums!

I've got a while to wait for the big day (04-06-2010).

But I am going to be working abroad for the next year or two and so that will put a big hold on wedding plans.
To combat this I am creating a box full of inspirational pictures, websites, phone numbers etc so I have all my plans and ideas in one place, then I shall pack the box away (and it will stay with my parents) so when I return home I can open it and the whole planning process wont be such a mad rush! - well that's the plan anyway!

My initial idea for a theme is 1950's vintage/shabby chic.

I am hoping to wear a vintage (or reproduction vintage) wedding dress
eg. http://www.poshgirlv.../daisyLace.html
http://www.poshgirlv...lowBunLace.html
http://www.poshgirlv...al/bridal1.html - (MAIN SITE)

The colourscheme would be white, palest pink, beige and pale mint green and I have been looking a lot at this website:
http://www.lovesmelovesmeknot.co.uk/

My mum buys and sells vintage treasures and handmade items from vintage fabrics for a living. She would be able to source and make a lot of items for me which is definately a bonus!
Her website: http://nostalgiaatth...se.blogspot.com

I want the decoration to look somewhat 'eclectic' - for example, not every table will be decorated the same, and I hope that everything will be pulled together with the colour scheme and the 1950's vintage look.

Anyway, here's where you come in.

Any help/suggestions for things I can add to my box will be greatly appreciated!
Right now I'm looking for everything, from my dress, to the bridesmaids, locations, decorations, stationary, table names, music - everything.

Thanks in advance, I look forward to hearing your ideas biggrin.gif

And this was the bouquet:

Very Breakfazt at Tiffany's!

You could have the Tables named after Cocktails, and have a pic of the Cocktail printed on there.

Zoe at http://www.krafti-kards.com/ does some lovely Shabby Chic invitations too.

Hi welcome to the forum!

Great theme! I'm a 40s and 50s clothes collector, I'd LOVE to buy from posh girl vintage they have some amazing dresses. Also check out Candy Anthony for repro dresses, they are beautiful but pricey. It is worth looking at eBay too as you can get some real bargains, but obviously you're not as assured of the quality. Try seaches on eBay for 50s prom dress/evening dress etc not just wedding dress. Also here's another vintage wedding dress supplier and another and another! These huys make beautiful vintage inspired tiaras and these guys for reasonably priced jewellery as they have some great vintage inspired pieces.

We considered hiring a jukebox for the party, but we've gone with a DJ now. They look awesome though and add a real 50s kitschness to the day. We also looking into hiring an ice-cream bar and having 50s style sundaes, but it was out of our price range. Having Elvis sing at your reception would be cool, another forum member did that and he was amazing. Expensive, but shabby chic style cakes! Also you'll need a 50s cadillac to arrive in and giant maritni glasses!

I love the story of this wedding.

Right think I have rinsed my webpage book marks, but also check out my planning pics! Will have a think to see if I've missed anything!

Have you picked a venue yet?

H xx

Hey guys thanks for the welcome and thanks for all the links! I shall be sure to bookmark them biggrin.gif

HeatheryBee - I LOVE Candy Anthony... if only I loved the price tag as much hehe... and that ice cream bar looks AMAZING, something I hadn't thought of and shall definitely look into. Also I love that wedding story... I was actually looking at some wingtip shoes like those for H2B!

I haven't settled on a venue yet, but I'm looking for some pretty, overgrown country gardens in which we can put up a marquee. biggrin.gif

Hi, just saw about Candy Anthony and their price tag. I agree, but the dresses are divine. I wanted a 50s style dress more so that I could have a good boogie without falling over my dress. I emailed them and explained that I loved the dresses but I was on a tight budget. Rachel told me to come in and we discussed how much I wanted to pay and then we went from there and I have to say I am soooooo in love with my dress. It is as if it has been made for me, so it is always worth emailing them to see what they can do.

Also my maid of honour found these dresses which we are going to have a look at next time I go down to see her. http://www.vivienofholloway.com/

hope this helps xxx

Hi there

I am a 50's enthusiast - love the clothes, the music - everything! Anyway, I have decided to part with an amazing dress from my collection so for anyone looking for an authentic 50's wedding dress, I am selling a stunning embroidered 1950's halterneck ivory dress, size 10 - and an absolute bargain; it's covered in thousands of hand-embroidered beads and is couture! Just thought it might be of interest for someone wanting a dress that's different but still elegant - click below for details:

Amazing gold 1950's couture dress

I'll definitely be keeping an eye on the forum for ideas for my own wedding! flyingpickett x

Try www.vintageous.com I came across this site looking for guidance on what shoes to wear with my vintage dress, and wished I had found the site earlier. Inexpensive, beautiful dresses that I think are what you're looking for.

Hi and welcome to the forum! Blue Bridalwear do a fantastic 50's style tea length wedding dress called Beautiful, here! Also Alan Hannah does one called Audrey, which is like a longer version (although Blue can make Beautiful in a full length version too) I think it's a brand new one though as I can't find it on his website. Not sure what your budget is though but they'd both be amazing with your theme, I wish I'd had this theme but I didn't see any 50's style dresses when I was looking, I kind of wish I'd searched a bit harder!!

Hey brides.

I had a sort of shabby chic wedding, a sort of tea party, vintage kind of theme.

It was a gorgeous day and I loved every second of it. We went for a hog roast as we wanted quite an informal do and it worked really well, didn't go for a seating plan but everyone sorted themselves out perfectly.

I had peonies and roses as the flowers and they look so old fashioned they are just beautiful.

Pearls draped over the tables, cake stands filled with cup cakes, tea sets etc etc.

I am trying to build up the courage to sell on some of my decorations so let me know if you are interested. I do feel like a want to keep them forever but unsure I will ever need hundreds of tea cups and enamel jugs again!!!!

Hi gcarr,

I was just wondering if you were still thinking of selling any of the items from the wedding. We are having a vintage/shabby chic style wedding and the picture of your stuff is exactly what I am looking for.

Hope the planning is going well for all you ladies.
