Hello Guys,

Looking for a little bit of advice, I would really like my BMs to be in a deep purple colour

http://www.morilee.c...m...pag=1&bsel=

but the problem is my H2Bs tartan is Grey with a red stripe through it http://www.lochcarro...mpson_grey.html

As you can see it is a very thin red stripe but he is insistant on wearing his red cravat also, do you think the purple dresses would go? Also you can not hire H2B kilt so i plan on hiring a similar grey tartan for Best man, ushers, dads etc.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

I think it will be fine.

It is quite common for the kilts and bridesmaids not to match if the groom already has a kilt.

The bridesmaids dress is gorgeous, and I love the colour. The only way to have them matching would be red or silver dresses, but I don't think they need to match.

My hubby had a charcoal grey kilt, but I didn't have any bridesmaids to worry about.

Thank you for the reply, just noticed you are from Inverness, I am from Nairn!!

Im not a huge fan of red bridesmaid dresses although have seen a nice red one with a purple sash so the colours must go but love the mori lee dress and colour!

Cool, my hubby works in Nairn!

I think you should just go for dresses that you and your bridesmaids like, and not worry too much about the kilts.

If you liked red, it would be lovely it all matching, but I'm sure it will be just as lovely if they don't.

Where are you getting married?

xx

I've not been to the Newton, but seen photos and it looks lovely.

Fingers crossed you can keep the numbers low enough for the chapel.

He works in Gordons sawmill.

My bridesmaid dresses and colour scheme are brown/ivory and my H2bs want to get married in Pride of Ireland tartan which is green so my stuff won't match but we don't care to be honest my bridesmaids will match me and he will match the grooms men so it will be fine.

i am having the same problem. H2b will be hiring a kilt, however our theme is fushica/black with silverbutterflies (mainly as we were due to marry abroad in June 2011) but now here (N.Ireland) in Dec this year. We'd already bought the save the dates, ivnites, centerpieces etc and didn't want to change the colours. Do you think his kilt will match in with fuschia and black dresses??? I've attached a photo of the Blair tartan.

Your dresses are beautiful, a lovely colour of purple and i'm sure it will all go really well smile.gif Can't wait to see your pics! xx

our colours were fuschia and black. The boys wore a grey kilt with a fuschia cravat, and hubby wore a silver cravat (to be different wink.gif ) and it went beautifully! We were really struggling at one point tho cos I wanted the boys kilts to match the colour scheme (bridesmaids were in black dresses with fuschia sashes) and obviously you don't get kilts with fuschia in them! I was almost changing our scheme to purple, but hubby found a beautiful grey tartan so the day was saved!

For what it's worth, I think purple and red would go, you could incorporate the 2 colours into the rest of the day too

Gosh, your pics are amazing. Your colour scheme is EXACTLY the same as mine smile.gifsmile.gif. Absolutey LOVE your pics, you look great and the bestman (i assume) with the trousers and the pink handbag in his pocket has me giggling away to myself here, hee hee. Looks like a fun day smile.gif. I think the grey kilts work really well and definately going to pinch that idea from you, thanks! I'm sure your glad now you didn't change to the purple. I've already ordered our save the dates, placenames and invites all in fuschia/black so can't really change now - not do i want too smile.gif.

If you can, could you please email to me the picture of your boys as a group so i can show to my h2b and also another with you with the bridesmaids please. Sorry, tried printing the pics to take home but didn't work sad.gif.. also tried saving to desktop and printing those 2 pics but again no joy. Email to lisa@mccuefit.com please.
Thanks xxx

My hubby wore a grey kilt too.

You can also hire a black kilt which is lovely too, it would look very smart with your colourscheme.

Awh, thanks Highland Wife, great tip. Yes, black or grey definately seem better than trying to stick with his 'Blair Tartan' which involves too many colours. I had a look at your pictures, they look great. Kilts are definately very smart smile.gif

Mrs Shaw, got photos copied.. sorry, a blonde moment there, thanks

Thanks hun.

I love kilts, thye a very smart. We loved the grey ones straight away (hubby couldn't hire his own tartan here). It went perfectly with my dress.

I was so glad when hubby and my dad said they would wear them. Both are scottish but had never worn one before.

I saw the black ones in the shop as well and they are lovely too.

Yeah, i have to agree. When he first said about wearing it i wasn't so sure then saw pics of him wearing one as usher at his fathers wedding and he looked amazing (altough of course i'm bias, lol). I'm not too sure if my dad would wear one.. i cant imagine him wearing one but thinking he could wear a plain black suit but with the fushica cravat?? Awh, thats good that your wedding was the first time they had worn them smile.gif. Thanks for the tips, i think i'll go shopping with the boys to keep them on track then, seeing as i've all these great ideas now, ha.

My dad took his time to decide. The alternative for him was a nice grey suit, but he decided he wanted to be the same as hubby and the bestman. They all looked lovely though.

The suit will look fine for your dad though. No point in him being uncomfortable in something. Although my dad and hubby said they could used to wearing it as it was really comfy.

Good luck with your search!!

haha, that's my FIL, he's a bit insane wink.gif He refused to wear a kilts (a whole other story!) so we had trews made up in the same tartan! H2B didn't like the black kilts, he felt they were too much like skirts cos you can't really see the tartan in them, so the grey was a good compromise smile.gif

Also, my dad was in Australia up until 3 days before our wedding so didn't wear a kilt, he just hired a mourning suit to wear and it was fine smile.gif

Yeah I'll send you the photos once I get to work today. My photographer was amazing, and the photos turned out brilliantly considering it was a dul overcast day and it was just about to POUR with rain! x

Hi Mrs Shaw, I was just trying to look at your pics so that I could give my H2B an idea of this colour scheme but unfortunately Flickr wouldn't let me, I was just wondering if there was any way that I could have a sneak peek at even just a couple of your pics, I would be very grateful, thanks in advance.xx
