Hi everyone- I'm a newby on here!. I got engaged recently so have just started planning, even though the wedding is a long way off!!. The church is booked eek, so now I'm starting to gather ideas for themes. We are hoping to have the guys in traditional tartan as my H2B's family is Scottish, my girls in Cadburys purple ( Alfred Angelos Eggplant is very close to perfect!!) and touchs of James Bond for the reception as my H2B is a massive fan and wears tartan in one of the early films!!. Has anyone else done anything similar as I'm looking for inspiration with flowers etc. Many thanks, Zoe.xxx

Hi Zoe - congratulations on your engagement and welcome to the forum!

Your theme sounds lovely and if you're looking for some James Bond style ideas then I think there's a James Bond feature coming up in the next magazine that may help you.

If you're also after some jewellery ideas then Swarovski do a gorgeous crystal called purple velvet that is a lovely Cadbury's purple type shade. I've just ordered in some beads in this colour and they're so pretty.

Hope this helps, and enjoy your planning! x

We had puprle in our theme and had eggplant for our bridesmaid. Its a beautiful colour and stands out well against the bride. My flowers were cream roses and we had a thistle throughout them which were a lovely purply colour. My advice would be google everything you can and maybe look into using another colour with the purple i.e lilac , orange or pink.

Congratulations Zoe! It seems a long way off now perhaps but trust me it wont be! lol we got engaged in March 2008, by Sept 08 the church and venue were booked and planning began...now its 2010 and my wedding is 8months away on Monday! sooo excited last night when the clock striked Midnight! I was able to say, I get married THIS year! lol

Anyway! our theme is vintage so blush pink and cream but to add a splash of colour my four bridesmaids are in deep purple and i am scattering dark purple flowers in their bouquet and on top of the cake. A little touch will go along way. As for favours we are doing lottery tickets for gents turned into a scroll and tied up with our personalised ivory ribbon and little ivory bags for ladies filled with cadburys dairy milk miniatures and perhaps a little 4 line poem inside for keepsake. The cadburys chocs you can get (with a good B.B.D on which not guaranteed if you buy from random chocolate selling sites) from the cadburys website. www.cadbury.co.uk they sell 8 packs of 20 miniatures for £11 exl P&P. which is really good, thats 160 chocolates :-D

As for other purple things the mini wedding ideas magazine always has lots in particularly Oct 2009 issue. let me know if you cant get hold of one and I will copy out the links for you.

Happy planning :-)

Hiya! I've thought of this colour scheme too and have had a couple of ideas....Cadbury DM miniatures (cheap on ebay too!)...Parma Violet sweets....purple glassware....purple LED lights for the tables...lavender plants on tables...etc.

I've thought of having this and dove grey as my colours but not sure yet! x

Try a bookers, cost co or macro local to you. They work out much cheaper that way.
Or if you have a cadburys shop (Gloucesters got one) theyve always got them.
Better yet, if you have a traditional type sweet shop local to you that you know they may be able to get you a box cheap.

Love the purple theme, mines lime green and purple.

We're having Cadburys purple as well and thinking of buying the big purple ones for favours and tying a 'luggage style' tag to them, so they can be used as place names as well. 2 in 1!

I looked over Christmas and at that time, they have a best before date of August. So you could buy them when they're on special offer and the date would last round to August (for those of you getting married prior ot August!)

How are you all getting on with BM dresses? When I looked on the high street last year, there didn't seem to be much in the right colour, but purple's been a big colour over Autumn/Winter it seems! Would rather not have to buy BM dresses from a bridal store, due to cost, so hoping I will find something I love soon! Although I'm lucky as I will have the choice of MiL2b making them for me if I can't find something perfect!

I'm so excited and I've still got 16 months to wait! (Time is flying though...!)

xx
