Hi,

I'm getting married next December and really was looking forward to a Christmas/Snow Queen theme as we've decided to go to Lapland. I went browsing round wedding dress shops in Glasgow today just to see what kind of styles of dresses were out there. (The two shops I went to there was no appointment needed as I didn't want to feel pressured). In the second shop I said to the girl that I was looking for something strapless with lots of pearl beading and not a long train. She asked if I had considered a less "fairytale dress" as brides of "your age" generally go for something understated!!!!???? Good grief I'm only 42 but am now left feeling I should get married in a simple dress and not have a theme sad.gif

Any comments on whether I am actually too old for a Christmas/Snow Queen theme would be very welcome x

Even if you are over 100 years old still go with your own choice!! ;D

It really doesn't matter, if that's what you want then go for it. Obviously you know what sort of dress styles suit you, and the shops can help to advise you as to what works for you, but at the end of the day, if you want a strapless, princess dress covered in sparkles, then it doesn't matter if the dress shop is recommending something else, you get the strapless princess dress.

I never normally wear dresses at all, and in fact one of the ladies at work assumed I will be wearing a trouser suit, whereas at the moment it's likely to be a statement dress with a large skirt. How often do you get chance to dress up like this, is how I'm looking at it.

I'm 38 and just got married. I'm all for 'age appropriate' so I think that a dress we would have worn as a 20 year old might not look good on a 40 year old. Mutton and all that.

However, that being said, you should wear what you want and what you feel comfortable in and what you get genuine positive feedback on from your friends or the shop assistants.. If you want a theme, have a theme. It's your day!

I might have reservations if you were talking Winnie the Pooh or something Disney cartoonish - but then I would have reservations about that whatever anyone's age!

As long as the theme doesn't become too 'themey' (if that makes sense) You can add hints of a theme but don't turn it into a pantomine. Again, that's regardless of age!!

Thank you for all your replies their really appreciated.

Yes I've decided to go ahead with my theme. It never was anything "pantomimish" or anything like that. I simply wanted a lovely wedding with a Snow Queen theme and that stupid girl in the shop made me doubt it!

J (my h2b) suggested that I should go back into the shop and do a "Pretty Lady" lol and ask if she was on commission.....

I've booked an appointment in two weeks time with the place I first saw the dress I liked and the people were lovely - so fingers crossed they still have the style I fell in love with biggrin.gif

I think as you get older thing are less forgiving but that doesn't mean you have to be boring!

For example if you're looking at a My Lady dress with see through bits at 42 then yeah I can see that might be too much, but strapless with some sparkle then no way!!!

I'm 35 and my dress is not exactly subtle - see planning pics!

You can have a theme! You're getting married in Lapland so the whole snow queen thing would look fab for a bride of any age smile.gif

You are not too old at all, what a stupid thing for the girl to say!! It's not her wedding, it's yours. Wear something that make you feel fabulous and have a great time organising your theme, it sounds lovely.

This is the dress I fell in love with but in ivory and without the veil. It was gorgeous on when I tried it a few months ago. Is it too much? I'm a size 10 and 5' 9".

The dress in your link is beautiful and regardless of your age you'll look fabulous in it. I think it is bang on the kind of dress to go for with your snow queen theme. We'll all look foward to seeing the pics of you when you try it on!!!

Hi Ladies, I have just joined the forum and have read the above, and am now in a state of shock. Our wedding date is October 2010 and from thinking that we would have a cream suit do because of my age, 60 my daughter fell about in giggles and said I was not that kind of a girl and we have now booked a real wedding. What on earth do I wear, could I have the real dress or am I being stupid. Any ideas girls

Have the real dress!! Go for it - it's your day. I'm going to be 43 when I get married and although it's now in Italy I am having EVERYTHING from the dress, to the shoes, flowers, tiara & as of this morning a veil (not a short one either a chapel length diamonte one).

It's al about what YOU want though and what you feel comfy doing biggrin.gif

Go for the dress no one is ever too old... It's your wedding day. Im 25 and i feel when i go trying wedding dresses they treat me like a child. so needless to say im not buying my dress from any of the shops who treat me like that.
Im new to the forum too.

But i really liked that dress in the link,
